Admissions Committee

Terms of Reference

  • Subject to approval by Faculty Council, to established policy concerning admission of applicants.
  • To decide upon applications for admission.
  • To set internal guidelines.

Composition

Seven members, as follows:

  1. elected by Faculty Council:
    • four faculty [M. Coyle, C. Brown, M. Martin, C. Nicholls]; and
    • two third year students [Vitali Berditchevski, Daniel Hynes]; and
  2. the B. Theobald, Director of Admissions, ex officio, with voting rights.

Term

One-year term.

Procedure

The Committee establishes its own procedure.

Quorum

A quorum consists of four members, two of whom are faculty.

Reports

The Committee reports at least once a year to Faculty Council.

Appointments Committee

Terms of Reference

  • to perform the functions of the Appointments Committee in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the University of Western Ontario and UWOFA;
  • to advise the Dean on policy issues relating to staff; and
  • to advise the Dean on the Distinguished Visitors Program, the Practitioner-in-Residence Program, the Judge-in-Residence Program, the Visiting Scholars Program, and other programs of a similar nature.

Composition

  • the Dean, who shall be Chair the committee;
  • two full-time tenured members of Faculty, elected by the full-time Members from the Faculty [S. Seck, M. Khimji];
  • two other Members of the Bargaining Unit in the Faculty, elected by the Full-time Members from the Faculty [R. Kostal, B. Miller].

Term

One-year term.

Quorum

Four members.

Reports

The Personnel Committee shall report to Faculty Council at least once a year.

Graduate Program Committee

At least three and no more than four full-time faculty members who have Master's Supervisory Membership status in the Graduate program, elected by Faculty Council. [A. Botterell, B. Welling, S. Seck, T. Telfer]

Terms of Reference

  • To examine all aspects of the Graduate program on a regular basis, including admissions requirements, course offerings and required course content, course evaluations of all courses, mark distributions for students and input from students in the form of focus group exit interviews.
  • To make recommendations to Faculty Council about any matters regarding the Graduate program that require the approval of Faculty Council.
  • To carry out any other function relating to the Graduate program assigned by Faculty Council.

Composition

  • the Director of Graduate Studies, who shall be the Chair of the committee;
  • at least three and no more than four full-time members of Faculty who have Master's Supervisory Membership status in the Graduate program, elected by Faculty Council;
  • one Graduate student *

* The composition of the committee need not include a Graduate student at any time that there are no Graduate students registered in the Faculty.

Programs Committee

Terms of Reference

  • To co-ordinate and assist with the activities of the Directors of all programs.
  • To make recommendations to Faculty Council about changes in the curriculum.
  • To approve individual research applications by students.
  • To carry out any other function assigned by Faculty Council.

Composition

Six members, elected by Faculty Council, as follows:

  1. four faculty [M. Martin, S. Pitel, M. Randall, P. Sankoff]; and
  2. two students [Robert Glasgow, Serena Gohal].

Term

One-year term.

Procedure

The Committee establishes its own procedure.

Quorum

A quorum consists of four members.

Reports

The Committee reports at least once a year to Faculty Council.

Promotion and Tenure Committee

Terms of Reference

To perform the functions of a Faculty Committee on Promotion and Tenure in accordance with Conditions of Appointment.

Composition

  • the Dean , who shall chair the Committee, but shall not vote except to break a tie;
  • four Full-Time Tenured Members appointed within the Faculty and elected by the Faculty Council:
    M. Coyle (term ends June 2014)
    R. Graham (term ends June 2013)
    M. Randall (term ends June 2014)
    B. Welling (term ends June 2012)]; and
  • three Full-Time Tenured Members who are not appointed within the Faculty, elected by the Faculty Council, and who have been members of a Promotion and Tenure Committee within the previous five years:

Term

Faculty members are elected for varied terms.

Quorum

The Chair and five other members. If the Chair withdraws because of a conflict of interest, a quorum consists of six of the remaining members.

Reports

The committee shall report to Faculty Council at least once a year.
