International Law Internship Program (ILIP)
Western Law’s International Law Internship Program (ILIP) was launched in March 2006, to provide Western Law students with summer international law internship placements. The ILIP provides students with the opportunity to expand their knowledge of international law and international issues while applying their legal knowledge and skills in a professional environment. Through the generosity of various donors and the Faculty of Law, the program provides financial support towards the ILIP placements.
In many of the internships, interns are asked to research and analyze international law issues. In addition, interns may be asked to assist in court (for clerkships), in United Nations sessions or international, governmental or nongovernmental meetings. Some internships provide interns with the opportunity to undertake fieldwork. There are many incredible benefits to participating.Students gain valuable international experience, create a network of international contacts for your future, improve their marketability and expand their career options.
Internships typically last from early or mid-May until late July/early August. Students must be in their first or second year of law school when applying, and are only permitted to participate once. The availability of the placements varies annually.
For more information about the program, please feel free to contact the International Programs Officer Andrea Streufert or the Faculty ILIP Co-Directors: Professor Sara Seck and Professor Peter Sankoff
