Important Dates
• ILIP Information Session – Plan to attend to learn more about the ILIP program and to hear last summer’s participants share about their internship experiences.
Early January, 2012
• The ILIP committee releases the call for summer 2012 internships. Watch for an email message.
Monday, January 16, 2012 at 4 p.m.
• Deadline to submit ILIP applications for summer 2012. These should include:
- 2-3 page cover letter,
- resume or CV,
- Fall term grades, (a printout from Lawsys is acceptable), and
- names of two references.
• Identify all relevant courses, whether from law school or otherwise that you have taken that might be of relevance to the internship.
• Identify other languages you speak that are relevant to the internship.
• Reference letters are NOT required or expected.
• You may apply to more than one internship opportunity with a single application letter. In your cover letter, simply identify which internships you would like to be considered for, and explain why you believe you would be the best candidate for each of them.
January 18 – 27, 2012
• You will be notified via email if an interview is requested. Not all internship placements will require an interview.
The week of February 06 – 10, 2012
• Successful candidates will be notified by email regarding an internship offer.
Mid February to March
• Successful candidates will be required to complete application materials for the host organization.
• These can sometimes be quite detailed and often require completion in a short time period.
Friday, March 23, 2012 (3 – 6 p.m.)
• Save the date – as attendance is mandatory at this pre-departure meeting for all ILIP and exchange participants.
• This meeting will highlight topics such as intercultural communication, safety abroad, and travel preparation.
March 26 – April 11, 2012
• A one hour individual pre-departure meeting will be scheduled for all ILIP participants to discuss the specifics about their internship placements.
• You will be notified by email about specific date and time.
Early to Mid May, 2012
• Start of your summer internship.
• The exact start and end dates of the internship are negotiated between the student and the host organization.
June, 2012
• First monthly report about your internship experience is due.
• Details will be provided by email.
July, 2012
• Second monthly report about the internship experience is due.
• Details will be provided by email.
Late July, Early August, 2012
• Internships are usually completed by the end of July or early August.
• Students wishing to participate in the Toronto articling process should be aware of the interview dates when negotiating the completion date of their internship.
August, 2012
• Watch for an email message from the International Program Officer, providing details and a template for your final ILIP report.
Wednesday, September 05, 2012
• Final ILIP report is due on this date.
• Detailed template for this final report will be sent by email
