Western Law students recently returned from a fall term exchange
with two torches from the Olympic relay.
Leaving Western On Exchange
Western Law upper-year students have the opportunity to study abroad for one semester while earning credit towards their Western J.D. degree.
The experience of being immersed in a different culture is one of the most enriching aspects of this unique and rewarding educational experience.
Each fall an information session is held to provide specific information about the exchange programs for the upcoming year. All interested students are encouraged to attend.
For students considering an exchange term in third year, it is strongly recommended that both compulsory courses and two of the core courses be completed during second year.
Our Exchange Program
Students pay tuition to Western, thereby avoiding international student tuition at the host schools. Students are still required to fulfill all graduation requirements for Western Law, including credit hours, January term requirements and course approvals.
Studying abroad can enhance your J.D. experience
Picture yourself immersed in a new environment where you can:
- Gain valuable international experience
- Study legal issues from a different perspective
- Experience a new culture
- Create a network of international contacts for your future
- Expand your career options
- Strengthen your language skills
- Take advantage of exciting travel opportunities
It is each student's responsibility to research each host university for accurate sessional dates for the coming academic year. In addition, a mandatory orientation session for exchange students may be offered at the host university prior to the commencement of the term.
"Going on exchange was one of the easiest and best decisions of my life. It really was such an incredible experience. ..... My exchange was certainly the highlight of my time at law school and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who is considering going."
