In the Moot, students argue an appellate moot problem based on a recent labour law case. The mooters represent either the management or the union side in teams of two. The best management-side and union-side teams are selected to compete in the championship round. This year's problem concerned the constitutional rights of agricultural employees in Ontario to collective bargaining. The winners were first-year students Eric Grigg (pictured far left) and Ben Howard (right). The runners-up were Dan Attwell and Omar Ha-Redeye. The competition offers a rich opportunity for Western students to learn about a dynamic and growing area of litigation, develop advocacy skills and meet lawyers from a top labour firm. Western Law would like to thank Hicks Morley for their generous support of this moot and to the Hicks Morley lawyers who judged the Western rounds: Paul Broad, Barry Brown, Aida Gattfield, Bob Atkinson, and Margaret Szilassy. Eric Grigg and Ben Howard will go on to compete in the Hicks Cup finals in Toronto on March 26, against the top teams from Queen's, Ottawa, and Windsor.Western Law News
