The Toronto labour law firm of Mathews Dinsdale & Clark LLP has made a commitment of $60,000 over three years to establish the Mathews Dinsdale Speakers' Series in Labour Law. The Series, which commenced in February, enables Western Law to bring leading labour law scholars and practitioners to campus to lecture an advanced seminar of labour law students on a wide-range of contemporary workplace law issues.

Mathews Dinsdale Supports Speaker's Series in Labour Law
“Labour Law is an important part of who we are at Western Law”, said Dean Ian Holloway at a reception launching the series. “When we decided we wanted to grow our program we looked to Mathews Dinsdale as they represent excellence in the labour law field. We are very honoured to have this public association with the firm.”
“Western Law is producing some of the highest caliber of students I have seen”, stated Joe Lieberman, partner at Mathews Dinsdale and Chair of the student program. “We take great pride in being able to partner with the law school in such a way that will challenge students and enrich their educational experience.
Professor Michael Lynk, the organizer of the Mathews Dinsdale Seminar Program added, “although Western Law offers a wide variety of labour and employment law courses along with labour law conferences and internships, this gift gives us a real edge by attracting some of the best minds in practice, academia and from tribunals. Our students will truly benefit from this program”.
Some of the speakers in this series include: Prof. Judy Fudge (U of Victoria) on Unions, Women and Migrants, Prof. Lance Compa (Cornell University, Ithaca, NY), on labour law reform in China, Prof. Brian Etherington (Windsor University) on labour law and constitutionalism, Prof. David Doorey (York University) on decentred labour law theory and Prof. Paul Secunda (Marquette University, Milwaukee) on cultural cognition at work.
