Distinguished Alumni to be honoured at Awards Dinner

Western Law Alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends will gather on Thursday October 20 at the Arcadian Court in Toronto to honour three outstanding alumni, Mitch Frazer '99, Geoff Beattie '84 and Roberta Jamieson '76 and to introduce our new Dean, Iain Scott.

Roberta
Jamieson, President and CEO of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation,
will receive the Community Service Award in recognition of her lifelong
commitment to outstanding contributions to the community.
Roberta Jamieson was the first woman from a First Nation in Canada to graduate from a law school; the first woman to be appointed Ombudsman of Ontario; the first woman to head the Six Nations of the Grand River, Canada's most populous reserve. As CEO and president of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation since 2004, Ms. Jamieson is dedicated to realizing the potential of First Nation, Métis and Inuit youth through scholarship assistance and other supports.
Mitch Frazer,
Partner at Torys LLP, will be presented with the Ivan Rand Alumni Award for his
contribution to the Law School and to the alumni community. Frazer is a true ambassador for the Faculty of Law who
demonstrates boundless energy and an unwavering commitment to the communities
he serves. His numerous volunteer
activities include; UWO Law Alumni Association past president; North York
General Hospital Foundation Board of Governors vice-chair; Ontario Science
Centre Board of Trustees member; and a Belinda Stronach Foundation Advisory
Board member.
Geoff
Beattie, President of Woodbridge Company, will be awarded the
Professional/Business Leadership Award for his achievement in business and
leadership and his mentorship of alumni and the community. Beattie is a Canadian business legal executive and an
unparalleled leader in his field. A
powerful player on the global media stage, he serves as Chairman of CTV
globemedia Inc. and Deputy Chairman of Thomson Reuters. And in keeping with his
personal philosophy of leadership and service, Beattie is lending his talents
to his alma mater as Western’s Campaign Chair
