University Senate approves J.D. degree

Western’s University Senate has voted to approve changing the title of the Western Law degree from Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) to Juris Doctor (J.D.) The J.D. is typically regarded as a professional degree, requiring an undergraduate degree as well as a law degree. Students feel the J.D. would facilitate international employment.

All students currently attending Western Law can opt to receive either the LL.B. or J.D. degree designation. Students starting Western Law in September 2009, will receive a J.D. Law alumni will have the option to change their degree to a J.D. (with a fee to replace their diploma) or retain their L.LB.

Details on the procedure and administrative fee will be available in the new year. Please contact Western Law’s administrative officer Lisa Jibson at ljibson2@uwo.ca
