Clinic & Public Interest Programs In addition to the classroom aspect of the law program, Western Law values hands-on experience and offers students numerous opportunities to develop practical skills and provide valuable assistance to the community. Two of these programs will be assisting with intellectual property legal concerns in the near future. These are:
Community Legal Services (CLS) Pro Bono Students Canada
Intellectual Property, Information and Technology Law
Community Legal Services Director Doug Ferguson
Students working in the clinic handle cases involving summary conviction offences and civil matters. Students are advised and assisted by senior students and two full-time review lawyers. CLS also has several excellent clinical courses that allow students to gain experience while receiving academic credit.
Western Law is an active participant in the Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC) Program. PBSC is a network of law schools and community organizations in which students volunteer for legal service and research projects undertaken in the public interest. PBSC’s primary purpose is to encourage law students to become involved in their communities while at law school, and to continue this commitment during their legal careers.
