Obligations VI

The Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario is honoured to be hosting the Sixth Biennial Conference on the Law of Obligations in 2012. The Conference will be held from July 18-20 at the world-class Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre.


The theme of the conference is Challenging Orthodoxy, and the call for papers will be sent early in 2011. Registration and accommodation details will be available from this webpage in due course. The conference convenors will be Professors Jason Neyers, Stephen Pitel and Erika Chamberlain, all of the Faculty of Law at Western.

The Obligations series of conferences originated at the University of Melbourne in 2002, and has since become one of the leading private law conferences in the common law world. The conferences have been held at the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, and the National University of Singapore. Mostly recently, the Obligations V Conference was held at the University of Oxford. 2012 will mark the first time that the conference will be held in North America.

London, Ontario is a two-hour drive from both Toronto and Niagara Falls, and is 45 minutes from the world famous Stratford Shakespearean Festival. Nestled among the Great Lakes, London is also close to some of the world’s best freshwater beaches and the Bruce Peninsula/Fathom Five National Park, a world biosphere preserve which is home to over 22 shipwrecks and historic lighthouses.
