Our Students

The Western Business Law Clinic is staffed with Western Law students who have a genuine interest in community involvement and the area of business law. They volunteer their limited time to stimulate private-sector growth and work with trained lawyers to become inspired advocates for entrepreneurs.

 

Student Director

The Western Business Law Clinic runs under the direction of two Student Directors who are in their second year. The Student Directors are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Clinic and carrying out the recruitment, training and management of Clinic volunteers during the school year and the summer. The Student Directors are also responsible for acquiring and retaining clients and marketing initiatives.

 

Charlotte Cameron

Charlotte Cameron

Charlotte is currently in her 2nd year of the JD program at the University of Western Ontario. She has Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University where she focused her studies in accounting. Prior to attending Western, Charlotte worked in Toronto as an analyst on the BMO Capital Markets Finance, Financial Strategy Team. At Western she is a member of the UWO Choir and for the upcoming 2011-12 school year she will be working as a TA for a first-year small group property/LRWA class in the Faculty of Law.

 

Justin Dick

Justin Dick

Prior to enrolling in Western’s JD program, Justin received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, with a specialization in Marketing. Currently a 2L, Justin is a dedicated player on several of Western Law’s intramural sports teams and has a lifelong love of playing and coaching basketball. Furthermore, he has thoroughly enjoyed serving on several of the law school’s extracurricular committees, namely the Law Games and Social Committees. Justin was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario as the oldest of three boys, and thanks his parents, Chris and Sheryl, for their unending love and support.

 

Summer Caseworkers

Summer Caseworkers are associates who report to the Student Director and are responsible for managing files throughout the WBLC’s summer term. The Summer Caseworkers are responsible for: facilitating client meetings; developing plans of action for completing files; setting appropriate deadlines for completion of work; preparing memos and drafting documents for clients; and meeting with Mentors to discuss files.

 

Katherine Serniwka

Katherine Serniwka

Katherine comes from an extensive musical background, graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Music degree majoring in Opera Performance.  She is currently enrolled in her 2nd year of the JD program at Western.  Prior to attending law school, Katherine worked in Business Development and Marketing in the media industry.  Katherine continues to entertain her musical interests by performing for various events and fundraisers. 

 

Ryan Hayes

Ryan Hayes

Ryan Hayes is a Calgary native with a diverse business background. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Victoria with Dean’s List distinction and co-founded a corporation as an undergraduate student.  He is currently a second year law student at the University of Western Ontario, and was a finalist in the 2010 Torys LLP Negotiation Competition.  Outside of work, Ryan enjoys an active lifestyle: he acts as the captain of a law volleyball team and president of the law squash ladder. He is also the head of the UWO chapter of the Phi Delta Phi Law fraternity.

 

Jonathan Thoburn

Jonathan Thoburn

Jonathan Thoburn is a Toronto native who studied Criminal Justice and Public Policy (CJPP) at the University of Guelph. While attending U of G Jonathan was the President of the CJPP Club and also volunteered for the Legal Resource Room. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Honours, Jonathan worked as a court reporter in Toronto for Network Reporting and Mediation and also spent four months backpacking through South-East Asia. In his spare time Jonathan plays for the law school intramural hockey team and is an active participant in the law squash ladder. Jonathan has also been volunteering for the Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program in both Toronto and London for the past two years.
