The Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence is published biannually. Each issue typically contains five to ten pieces; many past numbers are in excess of 200 pages. Although the journal is pleased to publish essays addressing highly general and abstract issues of legal and political thought, preference is often given to those essays that speak to somewhat more concrete legal matters and do so in a philosophical way.
In the past our normal practice was to publish one special guest-edited
issue every second or third issue. The 1997 issue Carl Schmitt,
edited by David Dyzenhaus, was picked up for separate publication by Duke
University Press and published under the title Law as Politics.
Dennis Patterson's 1990 Wittgenstein and Legal Theory was also
published as a book (with additional matter) by Westview Press. Our most
recent special issue was Global Justice (July 2006) with Charles Jones, University
of Western Ontario, as guest editor. At present the journal has no plans to have regular guest-edited issues. The journal also publishes
a few Critical Notices and Book Reviews in each number; the former are
substantial, titled articles about a recent book whereas the latter are
briefer discussions (rarely exceeding four pages in the journal) also
of recent books. If you would like write a Notice or Review please
contact the editors and express your interest.
