Jason Hynes is an associate lawyer with Bereskin & Parr and works out of the firm's Waterloo office. He is also a registered Canadian and U.S. patent agent.
Jason earned a B.A.Sc. in mechanical engineering from the University of Waterloo and a law degree from the University of Western Ontario, with concentrations in criminal law and intellectual property, information and technology (IPIT). He also participated in the Laskin Moot.
Before being called to the bar, Jason worked in patent preparation and litigation for a global provider of wireless email products based in Waterloo. Jason also gained experience in mechanical design and manufacturing engineering while completing his undergraduate co-op terms.
Jasonís patent practice focuses on mechanical and software innovations. He also works with trademarks, copyright, trade secrets and related licensing matters.
Jason is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada's IT Committee, where he regularly participates in submissions to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office on proposed changes to patent law. He is also the vice-chair of the Kitchener-Waterloo Intellectual Property Group (KWIPG).
Jason is conversant in French, played varsity football while attending the University of Waterloo, and enjoys biking to work and golfing (albeit poorly).
